Get Better Zzz’s: Chiropractic Care Can Improve Your Quality of Sleep [Research]

Common sense tells us that a good night’s sleep contributes to good health.

How does care at Ascent Chiropractic help? Chiropractic treatment helps to reduce the pain and associated anxiety of spinal misalignments which often interfere with sleep patterns. Improved sleep, in turn, has been shown to enhance immunity and your ability to fight illness.

Additionally, a 2005 review of case studies linked sleep apnea, a disorder estimated to cost Americans $14 billion every year, to vertebral subluxations (spinal misalignments). The researchers who published the study gathered clinical information on 221 patients being treated by 15 different Doctors of Chiropractic. One third of the patients reported that their sleep patterns improved immediately after their chiropractic adjustment. What’s more, of the 20 patients who reported dealing with insomnia, all of them reported an improvement in sleep quality during the six days following their chiropractic adjustments.

The researchers noted that long-term trends had yet to be established and additional research was necessary, but the short-term benefits were remarkable nonetheless. Thanks for this helpful post on chiropractic care. I have seen the chiropractor in the past, and I remember it making my back feel much better. I didn’t really think about how chiropractic care could improve my quality of sleep. I like what you said about how a case study showed that sleep apnea could be linked to vertebral subluxations. I would love it if chiropractic care could improve my sleep, and my back pain. Thanks for the help!
