What is Active Release Technique?

Active Release Technique, often called ART, is a hands-on approach to soft-tissue care that combines targeted contact with movement. Dr. Grant offers ART at Ascent Chiropractic.

Bring the movement that bothers you into the conversation

Explain whether symptoms show up with reaching, lifting, running, sitting, or another activity. Describe what has changed and any previous treatment. That information is more helpful than choosing a technique before your evaluation.

ART, IASTM, and exercise serve different roles

ART involves hands-on contact and movement; IASTM uses instruments. Exercise-based rehabilitation focuses on active movement and progressive activity. Ask why one or more of these approaches may be included in your plan.

Know what comes next

Before leaving, ask how to judge your response, which activities to modify, and what would prompt a reassessment. Progress should be discussed in terms of the tasks and activities that matter to you.

Questions before you book

Can I request ART specifically?

Yes. Mention your interest when requesting an appointment. Dr. Grant will discuss whether it fits your evaluation.

Is ART a replacement for exercise?

It is a different type of care. Your plan may include hands-on treatment, active exercise, or both depending on your needs.
